Help Support Today’s Students…
Th e Spring Branch Education Foundation is committed to helping Spring
Branch ISD realize its mission: to provide every student a quality education
in
a safe environment.
Who is the Spring Branch Education Foundation?
Th e Spring Branch Education Foundation was founded in 1993 to create
voluntary
fi nancial support for Spring Branch ISD and to support its mission of
quality
education. Th e Foundation provides donors with a vehicle for making
approved,
tax-deductible gifts to SBISD. In 12 years, the Foundation has raised
over
$5,000,000, and has received a Houston Business Promise Award from
the
Greater Houston Partnership.
What the Foundation funds?
Th e Spring Branch Education Foundation provides approximately $500,000
annually to fund SBISD programs like:
• Community Network Student and Parent Program
• Scholarships for graduating seniors at each SBISD high school
• J. Landon Short Teacher Mini Grants Program
• Arts Partners Program
• Th e Altheretta Yeargin Art Museum
• After School Student Mentoring Program
• Teacher and Staff Development Program
Why a Foundation?
The majority of Spring Branch ISD’s financial resources
are used to meet state
mandated requirements. Foundation funds support educational
programs and extra-curricular activities that are integral
to the development of the whole child.
Join us in building a future generation of stable, well
educated, adults who are
prepared to serve as tomorrow’s leaders. The members
of the Spring Branch Education
Foundation are committed to harnessing the community’s
generosity for
the benefi tof its children, because we share the belief
that there’s
much more to
education than simply “the basics. “
How does the Foundation
raise money?
Th e Foundation collaborates with area businesses and volunteers to
sponsor three popular annual fundraising events: SBEF Golf Classic,
the Crystal
Awards for Outstanding Teachers, and Running for the Arts 5K Run/Walk.
These events have raised over $1 million dollars for programs that
directly impact
the staff and students.
…Tomorrow's Leaders
Doesn’t the state already provide adequate funding for schools?
No. Existing state funding formulas under the “Robin
Hood” law
are intended
to equalize school funding among school districts across
the State, by
transferring funds from property rich districts to districts
with lower appraised
property values. The State’s funding formulas do
not adequately account for the
varying needs and costs of educating students within each
district. This year
SBISD will transfer $22 million dollars of its property
tax revenues to other
districts. This significant loss of funding seriously affects
the District’s
ability
to meet the needs of its diverse student population. Funds raised through
the
Foundation allow the District to continue or expand value-added programs
in
reading, science, technology and the arts.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes, the SBEF is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. All
donations are tax deductible
to the full extent of the law. Donations come from businesses
and individuals “We are both passionate about public
education, which is why we are
committed to making the Spring Branch Education Foundation
Campaign a success. Every student embodies our society’s collective
hope for the future. It is our responsibility to prepare him or
her for living as well as working. The quality attention we focus
on our
children today will benefi t all of us tomorrow.”
