Spring Branch School District
Competitive Swimming and Diving Programs
Competitive swimming and diving begin at the 9th grade level in
SBISD. Each Senior High School has a coach employed to coach the Girl
and Boy swim teams. In addition, the District employs a coach for all
of the divers. For students not having transportation, a school bus
brings all swimmers and divers from their campus to the Natatorium.
If students wish, they may provide their own transportation or car
pool.
In September, the High Schools begin their swimming and diving
practices. These workouts are on a rotation basis, Mondays through
Saturdays between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and/or between 1:30 p.m.
and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. Saturday practices are from 8:00 a.m. to
12:00 noon.
Beginning in November through March, about 25 High School Swim
Meets are scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and a few
Saturdays. Warm-ups start at 5:30 p.m. and the meets begin at 6:30
p.m. on weekdays.
Each swim meet will have a referee, starter, stroke judge, turn
judge, false start rope operator, a runner, a timer/scoreboard
operator, a meet manager, computer operator, diving judges, 6 lane
timers w/stopwatches and 6 backup button timers to work the meet.
Most dual and tri-meets are over in about 2.5 hours, depending on the
number of entries, speed of the swimmers, and any problems along the
way.
