The
SBISD Natatorium is a $3 million swimming complex, opened
for public swimming on July 5, 1977. Serving the community's
aquatic needs during the school year, we offer a superior Girls
and Boys Competitive Swimming and Diving Program at all
of our Senior
High Schools.
The
W.W. Emmons Natatorium is used during the school months by
the swim teams at Spring Branch schools. It is open to the
public only during the summer months. It opens approximately
the week after school is out and closes about one week before
school begins. During the summer, SBISD employees and their
immediate family members, along with "STAR" senior
citizens, swim free of charge. Public swimming admission is $1.50 for
public school students and $2.50 for adults over the age of 18. Summer
hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursdays.
Community service organizations may rent
the Natatorium on weekends for clinics and swim meets.
The SBISD Natatorium is an indoor, 8 lane/25 yd., swimming
pool with seating for 900 spectators. It holds an estimated
450,000 gallons of filtered, polished water, heated to 83
F, and is chemically treated to 7.4 pH./1.5 ppm of free
chlorine. The 4 ft. shallow end drops 2 inches every 6 ft.
towards the deep end. One 3 meter and two 1 meter diving
boards are located in the 13 ft. deep end. A flow-through,
stainless steel, bulkhead separates the diving area from
swimming competition. Operating in conjunction with the
special bulkhead, is a special gutter system that traps
the wave action and preventing it from returning back into
the pool. Thirteen lane lines are installed, especially
designed to breakup each swimmer's wave action.
All of this makes the Spring Branch ISD
Natatorium, one of the fastest swimming pools in the Gulf
Coast area. In addition, is the Colorado Timing System with
8 lane touch pads, starter/sound system, electronic scoreboard,
backup lane timing, computer printout of lane times and splits,
a public address system, public telephones, a first aid room,
conference room, computer/timer room, a hospitality room,
and we have table and chairs for officials and workers.
