The SBISD December
2005
Employee of the Month is:
Vanessa
Brooks
Teaching Assistant
Spring Oaks Middle
School
Her nomination read, in part:
“Vanessa is an indispensable employee at our school.
From greeting the students each morning to picking them
up as a bus driver for the Saturday school, she is one of
the most dedicated people here.
Vanessa begins her day in the cafeteria. She greets the
students in a cheerful manner while maintaining discipline
and order in an otherwise chaotic time of day. When they
are finished eating, the cafeteria is almost spotless due
to her insistence that each student be responsible for cleaning
up for themselves.
She then moves on to work with ESL students. In a school
with more than 200 English language learners, Vanessa has
multiple responsibilities that she handles with care and
conviction. In a classroom where students’ academic
levels in their native languages vary from prekindergarten
to eighth grade, she is able to inspire and motivate them
with a teaching style that is both firm and encouraging.
Vanessa also assists with the ever-increasing amount of
documentation, testing and reporting requirements that go
along with an ESL program. She assists in filing, copying,
sending, searching, documenting and reporting.
She is a mentor, volunteer, friend and invaluable employee—as
well as an outstanding person.”
