Her nomination read, in part:
“Dolores is a great nominee because
of the care she displays for her girls.
She not only acts as the director and
choreographer for the Tigerettes—she
is also a surrogate mom. She helps sew
costumes when they are torn, builds props,
helps the girls solve personal problems
and acts as a tutor when they need a little
extra help in school.
Recently, one of the Tigerettes was physically
assaulted on her way to school. Dolores
was there for the girl and provided her
the support she needed to get through
this traumatic event. Dolores has first-hand
knowledge of what it feels like to be
a victim. Last year, she herself was assaulted
and robbed outside of her home.
The true impact that a teacher has on
her students can only be measured over
time. Dolores has impacted many, many
lives and will continue to do so for a
long time in the future.”
