SBISD April 2008
Employee of the Month

Diane Knapp

Teacher
Housman Elementary School

Diane Knapp

Her nomination read, in part:

“Diane is a perfectionist who takes her teaching role very seriously. She is often found working early in the morning and late in the evening on any given day of the week. She truly cares about each and every student in her classroom.

Diane has always been a team player. She strives to make each student have a successful and rewarding year. She is in constant communication with parents and administration about the progress of her students. She coordinates classroom activities with the librarian, keeps close tabs on the specialist’s approaches with particular students and keeps the principal informed. If goals aren’t accomplished, she takes responsibility for correcting them.

When Diane was ill and undergoing treatments, she was extremely concerned about leaving her students. She withheld her health condition in order to give them positive explanations for her absence. Even when weak with treatments, she spoke to the class via speaker phone. When a challenge took place, she spoke on the telephone with an individual student in ways she knew would have a calming factor.

Regularly, former students from middle school, high school and beyond reconnect to tell Diane what a positive impact she had on their lives. She is highly regarded and well deserving of collective recognition.”
