Fred Keinz
Bunker Hill Elementary
Without exception, Fred Keinz is at Bunker Hill at 7:45 every morning. He selflessly volunteers his time, energy, talent and support to students and staff.
Fifth graders do a morning broadcast to the whole school. As a skilled photographer, Mr. Keinz has greatly enabled the students to perform and develop important tasks such as camera operating, weather announcing, anchoring and sound & lighting. In addition, he has taken time with third, fourth and fifth grade students. Last year, he taught them about the history of photography and the elements of photographing. He even set up a darkroom in one of the classes-complete with a developing machine and chemicals. Students were able to take a picture on campus and experience the developing process on their own, first hand. He plans to do this next year and has already donated the developer for students to use in the years to come.
Another way he supports students is through his fundraising activities. By donating five full weekends each school year and working through a long schedule of families wanting to be photographed, Mr. Keinz accomplishes this. All of the profits go to Bunker Hill.
What makes his volunteering so special is how he handles himself. He has no hidden agendas or requests of any kind. His calm manner, kindness, patience, gentleness and the ability to never raise his voice serve as a model for everyone.
