October 2008 Volunteer of the Month

Sophia Blackmun, Rhonda Fiot, Paula Mikulski

In the words of Janet Smith, SBISD’s lead foreign language teacher, “SBISD’s first summer French camp simply could not have taken place without three amazing volunteers. There was nothing they couldn’t or wouldn’t do to help the 100 middle schoolers and four teachers have an experience that was simply fantastique!” From hours of phone calls to daily work with small groups of students throughout the week of camp, these three special volunteers were invaluable.

They brought supplies, refreshments and enthusiasm to the program and they continue to help French classes at Westchester Academy for International Studies. Thanks to their generosity, French language magazines are available for all SBISD French teachers to share contemporary French culture and language with our students.

We happily say “merci” to the SBISD September Volunteers of the Month, Sophia Blackmun, Rhonda Fiot, Paula Mikulski.
