March 2009 Volunteer of the Month

Mary Sweet
Panda Path School

Mary Sweet Mary Sweet is a dedicated, caring, generous volunteer who cares deeply about the students and their families at The Panda Path School. One of Ms. Sweet’s most valued contributions to Panda Path is her passion for reading and the time she puts into making sure the students love it as well. She contributes countless, selfless hours organizing volunteers from Chapelwood Church to come and read to the students.

Ms. Sweet recruits readers and has them attend a training session before being assigned to a classroom to read to weekly. She is continuously updating the book supply at Panda Path making sure that all students get a chance to hear a vast assortment of books throughout the year. Panda Path has a special tradition called “Share Your Love for Reading Night” where each student comes to school at 5 p.m. in pajamas, spends time reading their favorite books, and leaves with a new pair of pajamas and a book.

Ms. Sweet makes this night a success by continuing to organize Chapelwood volunteers to cook “breakfast for dinner”, read, and just stay around to enjoy the night! Each year the number of readers grows thanks to Mary Sweet’s commitment. Her dedication and enthusiasm for the Panda Path students make us proud to announce her as our March volunteer of the month.
