Dan Redwine, an engineer, is an outstanding Mentor/Volunteer to be selected for the honor of Volunteer of the Month!  His volunteer service began six years ago as an IMPACT mentor through Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, in the first year of MDPC’s program at Spring Woods Middle School.

Dan was a loyal, weekly mentor at SWMS for a year, after which time his mentee moved out of the district.

At the same time, the counselor at SWMS had asked for a mentor for a young man who was subjected to the influences of gang membership, but who was well-liked and seemed to have potential beyond what his school performance indicated at the time.

Dan quickly answered the call to mentor this young man, who over time has excelled in many areas. He had dropped out of basketball and football, but with Dan's persuasion tried Track and Cross Country, where he quickly became a star.

His grades improved, and as a sophomore at Spring Woods High School, where Dan continues to mentor him, this young man won an Outstanding Leadership award.  With Dan's encouragement, he attended a Leadership program at Rice University.

Dan Redwine has changed the life of a young man who now realizes the hope that he has for a most promising future.

Dan also volunteers for service projects at SWMS, most recently chairing the most unpopular committee--changing over 1,000 locker combinations throughout the school for the new school year.

Dan Redwine is a true servant, seeking to assist young people wherever needed. Not only did he raise his own children in SBISD, but he continues to support our mission by sharing his wisdom, guidance, and kindness with a most deserving young man.  We are honored to recognize Dan Redwine as the Outstanding January Volunteer of the Month for SBISD.
