Duncan Klussmann is th Dr. Duncan Klussmann is
the Superintendent of Schools for the Spring
Branch Independent School District (SBISD) in
Houston, Texas. Student Populations within this
urban school district are extremely diverse.
Duncan is responsible for the daily operation
and leadership of the school district. He works
with his staff to be informed of all aspects of
the district’s instructional programs and to
ensure that there is a continuous focus on
improving student academic performance. He also
works with the Board of Trustees, administrative
staff and community in providing safety and the
very best curriculum planning possible for
the school district.
Duncan grew up in Brenham, Texas. He
earned his Bachelor’s of Business Administration
Degree in International Business and Finance
from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, a
Master in Education Degree from Stephen F.
Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, and his
Doctorate in Education Degree from Seton Hall
University in South Orange, N.J.
Duncan has been involved with various leadership
roles throughout his educational and
professional career. His educational experience
includes teaching economics and social studies,
coaching tennis, middle school assistant
principal, middle school principal, high school
assistant principal, area superintendent,
assistant superintendent for finance and
operations and interim superintendent for the
Spring Branch Independent School District. Most
recently he has been active in his community
where he lives with his wife and three children.
He has been a city councilman for Jersey Village
and is involved with the building committee at
his church to work on a major expansion of the
education wing. In the past, he has coached some
of his kids’ roller hockey, soccer, baseball and
basketball teams.
Duncan enjoys working with people, and
developing programs that help people learn new
skills that will enhance their abilities to
serve students. He has a philosophy of “keeping
it simple,” and not making processes more
complicated than necessary. His subordinates and
peers appreciate this approach, and have come to
know that this style of management is efficient
and produces results.
