The first day of classes for SBISD’s 32,000 new and returning students will be Monday, Aug. 24. Prekindergarten students who attend campus-based programs will also begin classes on this day.

SBISD Administration Building offices are open 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday through Aug. 7. Beginning Aug. 11, these offices return to regular hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 713-464-1511.


Back to School Nights

SBISD campuses will conduct Back to School Nights throughout September. The following schedule has been made to support families with students across grade levels:

All Middle Schools, Week of Sept. 7-11
All High Schools, Week of Sept. 14-18
All Elementary Schools, Week of Sept. 21-25
All PreK/Schools for Early Learning, Week of Sept. 28-Oct. 2

The annual Elementary Back to School Night for Scouting is Tuesday, Sept. 1.



New Student Registration

Only students new to SBISD or SBISD residents, who have moved within SBISD and will attend a different school than the previous year, must register for classes. SBISD elementary and middle schools will hold registration for new students on the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1-3 p.m.
  • Thursday & Friday, Aug. 13-14, 8 a.m. until noon and 1-3 p.m.
  • Monday, Aug. 17, 8 a.m. until noon and 1-3 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 18-19, 8 a.m. until noon
  • Thursday, Aug. 20, 8 a.m. until noon and 1-3 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 21, 8 a.m. until noon
  • Monday, Aug. 24, Registration will be held after 1 p.m. on the first day of classes

SBISD high schools will follow the above registration schedule EXCEPT high school registration will be closed on Friday, Aug. 21, to prepare student schedules. Registration will re-open on Monday, Aug. 24, beginning at 1 p.m. in district high schools.

Campuses may hold additional registration hours on an individual, campus by campus basis. For more information, please contact your neighborhood school. A parent or legal guardian must be present to enroll students who are less than 18 years old. Enrollment requirements include:

  • Immunization record certified by a doctor or public health official
  • Transcript or report card from the last school attended
  • Birth certificate or other document suitable as proof of a child’s identity
  • Proof of residence (lease agreement, mortgage payment book, district tax bill, utility bill with correct name and address, or a notarized statement to verify that the child lives at the residence listed)

Immunizations

All students, including prekindergarten and kindergarten students, should receive age-appropriate health immunizations. Immunization requirements are set by the Texas Department of State and Health Services and are subject to change on an annual basis. To receive the most current and accurate information possible, please contact your pediatrician or the school nurse at your neighborhood campus. Two Back School Health Fairs with free immunizations, free school supplies and health screenings for the whole family are scheduled for SBISD families. Bring your child’s shot records or a request from a school nurse. Health Fairs include:

SBISD families can also visit the Spring Branch Community Health Center, 9325 Kempwood, which offers low-cost immunizations, based on family income and need. Health Center hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. For details, please call 713-462-6565.


Graduation Requirements - Updated for 2009-10

After more than a decade without a change in cost, full-price student lunches increase 20 cents for elementary lunch and 30 cents for secondary lunch. Elementary full-price lunch will cost $1.50 per lunch. Middle and high school lunch will cost $1.75 this year. This increase applies to lunches only. Reflected in meal price changes are rising food costs and higher-priced foods resulting from the new Texas School Nutrition Policy. Schools for Early Learning

Registration and orientation dates TBA. Students who meet certain eligibility guidelines may attend tuition free. Tuition will remain at $4,500 for the school year and is collected in nine monthly payments of $500. For details, call 713-365-4360.


Transportation

SBISD provides free transportation to and from home campuses for students in prekindergarten through 12th grade. Detailed bus route information will be posted before school begins on the district’s Transportation Department website. Families may also call or visit their neighborhood schools to obtain bus information.

New students must register and have their address verified before gaining permission to ride a school bus or be placed on a school bus route. Route stops and times are subject to change due to traffic or construction. To be seen and picked up, all students should be at their designated bus stop 10 minutes before estimated bus arrival.
