On June 18, 2001 TAAS™ II was renamed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS™) and will become the new statewide assessment program in 2003. The Student Assessment and Curriculum and Professional Development Divisions of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) are working to develop TAKS™ as mandated by Senate Bill 103 during the 76th Texas Legislative Session.
