Federal Funding Purposes
- Students must be between ages of 3 through 21 years old
- Students not born in any state in the U.S.
- Have not been attending one or more U.S. schools in any one or more States for more than 3 full academic years.
Students must meet all 3 criteria.

Recent Immigrant for
TAKS
Testing Purposes ONLY
- At some point in his/her history the student has resided outside the 50 U.S States for at least 2 consecutive years.
- The student is in his/her first 3 school years of enrollment in U.S. schools.
This definition is for assessment only. It differs from the one used in PEIMS. Country of birth and number of years in U.S. are notused to determine immigrant status.
Students must meet both criteria.
Any part of a school year enrollment equals a year for purposes of TAKS exemptions.
