In order to ensure the academic success of students who are speakers of languages other than English, SBISD provides a program of intensive instruction in English.

• Certified teachers trained in delivering comprehensible content instruction through English.

• The amount of ESL instruction determined by level of proficiency in English.

• Delivery of instruction provided in a variety of ways by ESL specialists, ESL self-contained classroom teachers, and/or ESL designated teachers.

• Component of the bilingual program, and in this setting is usually taught by the bilingual classroom teacher who is certified in ESL.

• Offered daily in all of the Spring Branch schools.

• Many different instructional materials are used in the ESL classrooms. New ESL textbooks (Grades K-8) are up for adoption in the 2003-2004 school year.
