Full-day Prekindergarten Program for 2007-08
 

Spring Branch ISD provides full-day prekindergarten for all students. To enroll in the program, child must be

  • 4 years old on or before Sept. 1
  • reside in the SBISD attendance area

This full-day, educational program, believed to be the first of its kind in Texas, helps children build a solid academic foundation to be better prepared for school success.

Scholarship Information

Prekindergarten Scholarship Application Procedures

  1. Parents must register their child in prekindergarten at their zoned elementary school or one of the Schools for Early Learning.
  2. After registering, the parents may acquire a scholarship form from the school their child will attend or from HERE.    
  3. The completed scholarship form and appropriate income verification documents (last year’s United States federal tax return) must be submitted to Sharee Cantrell, at Lion Lane School, 2210 Ridgecrest, Houston 77055 no later than May 15th.
  4. Parents will be notified of scholarship approval/denial by August 11.

Tuition

The tuition will be payable in 9 installments of $500.00 per month.

Full-day Prekindergarten

A registration form for Prekindergarten and a Parent Agreement form should be filled out and accompanied by a non-refundable $50 registration fee.

The Gift of Two Languages
Pre-kindergarten is offered at Cedar Brook Elementary in the Two-Way Dual Language Immersion Program. This is an enriched education program that uses two languages, Spanish and English, for the purpose of instruction. The classes are composed of native English-speakers and native Spanish-speakers. This developmentally appropriate program teaches children two languages and builds a solid academic foundation for future school success. Students in the Dual Language Pre-K are prepared to continue in the CBE Two-Way Dual Language Immersion program through fifth grade.

Preregistration
A lottery will be held for spaces in the prekindergarten classes on elementary campuses. Information concerning the lottery will be available on January 3, 2007.

Registration (Registration Brochure)

Registration will be held: 
August 14-15, 19-22
8:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00

Registration will be at neighborhood elementary schools and at the Schools for Early Learning.
The following must be presented at registration:
  1. Birth certificate
  2. Proof of residence in Spring Branch Independent School District (lease agreement or mortgage payment book)
  3. Health records/immunizations-Evidence of the following immunizations is required at registration: Details found here.

    Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus - Four (4) doses of DTaP/DTP are required for children 19 months through 4 years of age.
    At age 5 or upon entry into kindergarten, five (5) doses of vaccine in any combination are required unless the fourth dose was
    received on or after the fourth birthday in which case only four (4) doses are required

    Polio - By age 4 years, three (3) doses are required. At age 5, or upon entry into kindergarten, four (4) doses are required,
    one of which must have been received on or after the fourth birthday. If the 3rd dose was administered on or after the fourth birthday, only three (3) doses are required. If a combination of four (4) doses of OPV and IPV was received before four
    years of age, no additional dose is required. However, if the series is comprised of all IPV or all OPV, then a booster dose is required.

    Measles* (Rubeola) - One (1) dose of measles-containing vaccine is required. The first dose shall be administered on or
    after the first birthday. A second dose is due by age 5, or upon entry into kindergarten.
    Rubella* and Mumps* -One (1) dose each of rubella and one (1) dose of mumps vaccine received on or after the first
    birthday is required. (May be given in MMR combination vaccine.)

    Haemophilus influenzae (type b conjugate) - One (1) dose for children 15 months but not yet 5 years of age unless a schedule for a primary series and booster was met prior to or at 15 months. History of Hib disease since age 2 through age 4
    is accepted by written statement from a physician licensed to practice medicine in the United States.
    Hepatitis B* - Three (3) doses are required.

    Varicella* - One (1) dose of varicella vaccine received on or after the first birthday is required. Reliable parent history or
    physician validation of varicella illness may meet requirement.

    Hepatitis B* - Three (3) doses are required (4 wks. Between dose 1 - 2; 8 wks between dose 2 - 3, and 16 wks after first dose)

    Hepatitis A - two (2) doses given 6 - 18 months apart for children 2 years - 4 years. (Effective January 2007: first dose required on/after 12 months-this is a change from 24 months of age.)

    Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV7) - Ages: 2-6 Months - 3 doses +booster on or after 12 months; 7-11 Months - 2 doses + booster on or after 12 months; 12-23 Months - 2 doses, no additional booster; 24-59 Months - 1 dose on or after 24 months or completed series and booster (if indicated) by 23 months. Age 5 and older not required.

    *Serologic confirmation of illness will meet requirement for Measles, Rubella, Mumps, Varicella, and Hepatitis B
    Vaccine doses administered less than or equal to four (4) days before the minimum interval or age shall count as valid.

  4. Social Security Card (if child has one). If a child's parents are active military, evidence of that status can be furnished to the school to qualify for free prekindergarten tuition.
  5. Evidence of current income or homelessness to qualify for free or reduced price lunch in addition to prekindergarten.

The following schools have Prekindergarten classes: Cedar Brook, Edgewood, Frostwood, Hollibrook, Housman, Hunters Creek, Meadow Wood, Memorial Drive, Nottingham, Rummel Creek, Shadow Oaks, Spring Branch, Terrace, Thornwood, Valley Oaks, Woodview, and Wilchester.

In addition, five Schools for Early Learning will be in operation for the 2006-2007 school year. These schools are designed just for four year olds. Four of the schools will accommodate 374 children in 17 classrooms. The Panda Path School will accommodate 176 children in 8 classrooms. Each classroom has it's own bathroom facilities, an art and science area, computers, and a wealth of materials appropriate for the children. The classrooms at the four larger Schools for Early Learning open into a 28,000 square-feet courtyard featuring a large play structure, paths for riding tricycles, a hill to climb, a grassy area for running, and other outdoor interactive activity areas. The playground at The Panda Path School is adjacent to the school.

Transportation
Free transportation to the Schools for Early Learning will be provided to children as assigned to the schools.
