The Spring Branch ISD GEAR UP Grants

GEAR UP is a five year project that was awarded to SBISD in September, 2002 and a new grant in September 2005. This first $2,060,000 grant started with a cohort of sixth graders at Landrum and Northbrook Middle schools who are now at Northbrook High School. The second grant totaling 2,659,619 is a six year award that started with the 2005-2006 seventh graders at Spring Oaks and Spring Woods Middle Schools and will follow them to Spring Woods High School.  This cohort will become the graduating class of 2011.

The GEAR UP grants provide these students with enhanced information and opportunities related to "Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs" for a six year period. This federal initiative comes from the U.S. Department of Education.
