Title: Counselor,
Elementary School
Major Functions and
Responsibilities: The person in this position is
responsible for providing a comprehensive and balanced
guidance and counseling program for students to meet their
special needs, consulting with teachers, parents and staff
to enhance their effectiveness in helping students
educational, social, and personal development, and providing
support to other elementary educational programs.
Examples of Key Duties: The
duties of this position include the following:
- provide guidance instruction by
conducting developmental guidance lessons in classrooms
and supporting other staff and volunteers to facilitate
the infusion of guidance content
- counsel individual and small
groups of students who may be teacher, parent or
self-referred
- serve as a resource person with
teachers, parents, and staff regarding meeting the needs
of elementary students and regarding specific information
about the children for whom they have
responsibility
- provide staff development for
teachers in helping them further develop their techniques
for working with students
- maintain log of students
served
- communicate effectively with the
community
- refer students with problems and
their parents to special programs, specialists, and
community resources
- participate in or coordinate
activities which contribute to an effective school
environment
- evaluate and plan improvement for
the campus guidance program as aligned with the TEA
Comprehensive Guidance Plan, SBISD Strategic Plan and
Campus Improvement Plan
- pursue continuous professional
growth
Staff Relationships: This
person is directly responsible to the building
principal.
Qualifications: The person in
this position should have the following credentials:
- Master's degree in related
field
- Valid Texas certificate
appropriate for position
- Ability to work with adults and
elementary children effectively
