Job Title: Counselor, Middle School Major Functions and Responsibilities: The person in this position is responsible for providing guidance services to students in the school served. Examples of Key Duties: The duties of this position include the following: evaluate and plan improvement for the campus guidance program as aligned with TEA Comprehensive Guidance Plan, SBISD Strategic Plan and Campus Improvement Plan provide educational guidance for students provide setting for discussion of concerns in personal-social areas consult with administrative and instructional staff in providing counseling and guidance activities that promote human growth and development provide career education (career guidance) as a team member in our curriculum-embedded approach to career education assist all students in experiencing their post high school career plans assist students in the transition from middle school to high school provide in guidance in selecting appropriate high school courses to meet career pathways refer students with problems and their parents to special programs, specialists, and community resources promote orientation programs for incoming students at grade 9 and new students at all levels assist administrative staff by involvement in extracurricular activities and functions pursue continuous professional growth perform other duties as directed by the building principal Staff Relationships: This person is directly responsible to the building principal. Qualifications: The person in this position should have the following credentials: Master's degree in related field Valid Texas certificate appropriate for position Previous teaching experience
