TENTH GRADE

Tenth grade students should ensure required classes from ninth grade are either successfully completed or included in this year’s course requests.  Tenth grade requirements include English II, World History, the next sequential math class, and the next sequential science class.  Additional requirements that need to be worked in over the next two years include PE, Health, Communications Applications, and either a technology or fine arts course, if any of these are not yet completed.  Consider beginning or continuing the study of foreign language.  Choose electives with an eye toward an ultimate career goal or college major.  Take a required full year technology courses or other full year programs to ensure pre-requisites are being met.  Meet with counselor to discuss elective options to fulfill four-year plans.

Testing:  Required - TAKS ELA , Math, Science and Social Studies;
          PLAN Test
          Recommended  - PSAT
Required classes:  English II, World History, Math, Science

__Decide what you want to do after high school: college, military, work?

__Begin learning about scholarship bulletins
__Read about financial aid for college

January

__Begin deciding courses for the junior year
__Check for course selection dates with your counselor

February

__Get a file box to save your report cards, test results, honors, etc.
__Decide what career plans you have for yourself

March

__Begin asking for recommendation letters
__Set a plan of action to become what you will do for the rest of your life

April

__Take the TAKS tests seriously
__Check that your graduation requirements are in order

May

__Consider taking Pre-AP/AP courses next year if not already in them
__Register for scholarship services on www.fastweb.com

June

__Begin visiting colleges during the summer
__Memorize your social security number
