Q. What are the basic components of the ARTS Partners
program?
A. Every student involved in Arts Partners attends:
- A field trip to a major performance or exhibition
- An in-school performance
Q. How is ARTS Partners funded?
A. The cost of the program is shared by Major Arts Organizations
in Houston, S.B.I.S.D., local PTA's and the private sector
through the
Spring
Branch Education Foundation.
Q. What grade levels are currently funded?
A. First through eighth.
Q. Who are the "Partners" that are part
of the project?
A. SBISD, SBISD Council of PTA's, Young Audiences of Houston, Society
for the Performing Arts, Houston Symphony Orchestra, University of
Houston Moores Opera, Museum of Fine Arts - Houston, Houston Children's
Museum, Alley Theatre, and Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum
Q. Why is ARTS Partners a cooperative effort?
A. There are several reasons. Some of the best ones are:
- It coordinates financial resources
- It provides continuity from year to year
- It is a vehicle that allows for classroom correlation
to arts experiences across all school curriculum areas
Q. Does ARTS Partners replace a regular program
of instruction in the arts? A. No. Artists in
schools and field trips serve to enhance, not replace regular
fine arts programs. SBISD offers music and art classes
for all elementary school students, band, orchestra, choir,
art and drama on all secondary school campuses. |
