Legislative Summit

Regional Legislative Summit will address state education issues

Spring Branch residents and school district employees are encouraged to attend a nonpartisan, regional Legislative Summit from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Oct. 18, to hear Houston-area legislators and make their opinions known about the upcoming Texas Legislature, which convenes in January for its biennial session.

This regional forum will be held at the Aldine ISD Campbell Center, located at 1865 Aldine Bender, and is designed to give local voters an opportunity to learn where officials representing them and their families stand on the issues affecting public education and the business community.

At the Summit, state legislators will respond to issues and field questions from business leaders, school board members – including members of the SBISD Board of Trustees – school superintendents, and educators. Goals of the morning session include greater legislative transparency and improved understanding of crucial public issues.

Invited to address key topics are Texas Sen. Dan Patrick, R-District 7, and state Reps. Rob Eissler, R-District 15, and Scott Hochberg, D-District 137. The forum will also include a panel of legislators responding to questions and a cracker barrel-style discussion during which legislators may field questions from the voters that they represent.

RSVPs are being taken right now for this important gathering. Please join us on Oct. 18, but first let us know you will attend by emailing partner@springbranchisd.com, or by calling SBISD’s Community Relations Office at 713-464-1511, ext. 2286. Seating is limited so please respond by Wednesday, Oct. 15.
