Annie Get Your Gun -- Starring in the Memorial High School production of Annie Get Your Gun are, left to right, Kirby Morgan (as the character Dolly Tate), Dino Nicandros (William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody), Marlen Nahhas (Annie Oakley), Justin White (Frank Butler), Conner Wilson (Charlie Davenport), Michael Perez (Chief Sitting Bull), Donnie Villoni (Tommy Keeler), and Candice Pink (Winnie Tate). The play will be presented on the MHS Performing Arts stage Jan. 24 - Feb. 2.

Spring Branch ISD students will perform in a variety of fine arts programs in the months ahead, including band and orchestra concerts, dramatic and musical stage productions, and related special events.

Many of these events are free and open to the public. Admission to others, such as high school musicals, is by purchase of advance or box office tickets. Discounts are often available to SBISD students.

Spring Branch residents 65 years old or older who are registered as STARCard holders may attend certain performances for free (some seating is limited and advance ticket pickup may be required). For details, call the SBISD Communications Dept. at 713-464-1511, ext. 2272.

This year, four district high schools are competing in the 2008 Tommy Tune Awards competition, sponsored by Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS). Finalists will be announced in several categories soon. Winners will be announced during a special presentation event planned April 22 in the Hobby Center downtown.

SBISD productions in the running for Tommy Tune Awards include Annie, which was presented last fall at Westchester Academy for International Studies; Memorial High’s Annie Get Your Gun, which opens Thursday, Jan. 24, and tells the story of famous sharpshooter Annie Oakley; Spring Woods High’s captivating Bye Bye Birdie, a Tony Award-winning musical, which begins a two-week run on Friday, Feb. 1; and Stratford Playhouse’s imaginative staging of the beloved children’s and adult classic, The Wizard of Oz, which opens Thursday, Jan. 31.
