The University Interscholastic League (UIL)
has announced a realignment plan for the
next two years, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010,
that will affect all Spring Branch ISD schools
at the district level, while moving Stratford
High School to Conference 4A competition.
SBISD Superintendent of Schools Duncan
Klussmann announced immediately after the
UIL’s Feb. 1 realignment plan was
released publicly that the district will
support an appeal of the league’s
action. The realignments affect campus athletics,
fine arts and other UIL-related student
groups and organizations.
Under the UIL realignment plan, Memorial,
Northbrook and Spring Woods high schools
will remain in Conference 5A, but move to
District 18 where they will compete with
three Alief ISD high schools – Alief
Elsik, Alief Taylor and Alief Hastings – and
private school Strake Jesuit.
UIL, meanwhile, has moved Stratford High
to Conference 4A, District 23, where the
high school will compete against three Lamar
ISD schools – Richmond Foster, Lamar
Consolidated and Terry – as well as
Bay City and El Campo high schools.
The league groups Texas high schools by
size into competitive districts, known
as conferences (5A, 4A, 3A, 2A, A).
