Spring Branch ISD will hold a public forum at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, in the Board Room of the SBISD Administration Building, 955 Campbell Road, to gather community comments for a proposal to name the new Tully Stadium Field House in honor of Mike Williamson.
Willliamson retired in 2001 after 40 years in the school district.
He began his career in SBISD in 1961 as a history teacher and football, basketball and track coach at Spring Woods Junior High School. He joined Memorial High School as head baseball coach from 1963-1966 and coached football from 1969-1975.
In 1976, Williamson was named Assistant Athletic Director and became District Athletic Director three years later. He was Executive Director of Athletics when he retired seven years ago.
Williamson earned many honors during his career, including Director of the Year from the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, Award of Merit from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and the Distinguished Service Award from the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association.
He was inducted into the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association Hall of Honor in 1998 and is an active member of Spring Branch’s Fairhaven United Methodist Church.
