Students, parents and community members are needed to test drive and offer comments on classroom computers offered by five separate manufacturers during the district’s upcoming Computers in the Classroom Vendor Fair.
This fair, held in an open-house format, will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, in the Upper Library at Spring Woods High School, located at 2045 Gessner.
The Spring Branch ISD Technology Committee has submitted recommendations to the district involving computers in the classroom. The recommendations include moving from curriculum labs to classroom computers.
In May, a separate Technology Fair was held and focused on the mini computer. Vendors at that event offered alternatives to the standard laptop and workstation.
On June 19, the Computers in the Classroom Vendor Fair will display product offerings by five vendors. They are Hewlett Packard, Dell, Apple, NComputing and Prime. The open-house style fair will focus on the following instructional technology:
- Small form-factor desktops for specialized labs
- Full sized laptops for classrooms
- Virtual Desktops for specialized labs and libraries
- Apple hardware for specific technology applications courses (industry standard).
During the upcoming fair, SBISD staff, students, parents and interested district residents will be able to evaluate these products and offer their comments.
In a separate but related action, the Texas Education Agency will conduct a study during the upcoming academic year to define hardware/software requirements for online testing, which may affect the district’s decision involving purchase of mini computers.
