SBISD Finance Department earns award of excellence

An international association of government officers has awarded Spring Branch ISD and its Finance Department the group’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the school district’s comprehensive annual financial report.

The certificate represents the highest form of recognition offered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. The certificate represents a “significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” the GFOA reports.

SBISD Finance Department officers were praised for their work during the June 23 regular monthly meeting of the district Board of Trustees.

“The Board of Trustees is proud to recognize the leadership of Associate Superintendent Karen Wilson and the Finance Department for being outstanding stewards of public tax dollars and demonstrating a constructive spirit of clearly communicating SBISD’s financial story to our patrons,” the Board stated in recognition.

In separate but related news, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the past five years has awarded SBISD its top rating of Superior Achievement for management of financial resources.

The district first earned the top rating in 2003 under the School FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) program. The top rating allows the district to obtain the best available interest rates, among other significant rating results.
