Hurricane Ike Announcements and Updates (9/12/08 1:21 PM)

In response to the predicted path and potential impact of Hurricane Ike, Spring Branch ISD is now closed and all weekend activities have been cancelled.Schools and Activities

  • The ACT test scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed. Students can check the ACT website at http://www.actstudent.org/regist/reschedule.html for more information.
  • An announcement for SBISD employees concerning an extension to the Benefits Signup Period and make up arrangements for the Sept. 12 closure will be made when the district reopens.

During the Storm and Staying in TouchAt this time, classes are expected to resume Monday morning. Should SBISD leaders determine that extended school closures are needed due to the storm, a district announcement will be made on Sunday through several communications channels. Should you have an emergency, please call Spring Branch ISD Police at 713-984-9805.Reopening Our SchoolsThe SBISD Police Command Center, which is located at 9009 Rutland behind the Spring Branch Education Center, will serve as the district’s Crisis Management Center. A First Response Team of administrators, SBISD Police officers and employee volunteers from several departments will monitor our schools and facilities throughout and after the storm.This team will also determine when classes will resume. To determine if schools can reopen, the following actions will be taken:

  • SBISD school buildings and facilities will be assessed to ensure that they are safe for occupancy. Electricity and other utilities must be operating and clean ups conducted. Roads must be passable so that it is safe to get to and from school.
  • Determine that teachers and district staff are ready and available to return.
