Fourteen campuses named to Texas Monthly’s annual list of best schools

Eleven campuses named to Texas Monthly’s annual list of best schools Two SBISD high schools, five middle schools and seven elementary schools in Spring Branch have been named to Texas Monthly magazine’s annual list of the state’s Best Public Schools. Top performing public schools are listed in this month’s 348-page issue of the award-winning, general interest magazine.

Memorial and Stratford high schools are among only 25 secondary schools in Texas to win 100 percent ratings for top performance in four separate subject areas: reading/language arts, math, social studies and science.

Also cited for high performance in all subject areas are Memorial Middle and Frostwood and Hunters Creek elementary schools.

The magazine’s editors joined with the National Center for Educational Accountability, formerly known as Just for Kids, to analyze student test results for the past three years to determine this year’s recognitions. This is the second year that editors have ranked Texas public schools by high performance on subject areas, and the fourth year that the magazine has published a list of top schools in Texas.

Four separate SBISD middle schools and five elementary schools were also named top performing schools by Texas Monthly, although they did not earn perfect ratings in all subject areas.

Recognized schools are Cornerstone Academy and Landrum, Spring Branch and Spring Forest middle schools and Bunker Hill, Memorial Drive, Nottingham, Rummel Creek and Wilchester elementary schools. For details, please visit http://www.texasmonthly.com/2007-12-01/feature6.php.

In a separate education ranking, Memorial and Stratford high schools were among only 505 high schools nationwide to earn silver or gold medals in the latest ranking of U.S. high schools conducted by U.S. News & World Report, the weekly news magazine.

Both of the Memorial and Stratford high schools were awarded silver medals for providing a good education for all students. For details on these rankings, visit http://www.usnews.com/.
