About the Program

The Jordan Fundamentals Grant Program was established to recognize outstanding teaching and instructional creativity in public secondary schools that serve economically disadvantaged students. If you have a special project, or would like to create a project that helps students reach new heights, fill out the Jordan Fundamentals application and apply for an award today.

Eligibility

  1. Public school teachers or paraprofessionals working with students in grades six (6) through (12).
  2. Employed by an accredited public school where at least 40% of the school's populations is eligible for the free or reduced school lunch program i.e. the school participates in the Title I program. Applicants must develop an original lesson plan or thematic unit (a series of lessons with related learning objectives united by a common theme) that demonstrates high student expectations. The plan or unit should not be derived from any commercial package.

Awards

Up to 400 grants of $2,500 will be awarded each year. Grant funds must be used for resource materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, or other costs related to field trips, software and other items required to implement and assess the proposed lesson or thematic unit.

How to Apply

Complete the Jordan Fundamentals application and mail it along with your responses to CSFA, postmarked no later than June 15, 2002 for the 2003 Jordan Fundamentals Grant Program. Responses shall be limited to three pages using 12-point font size, one-inch margins and double spacing. Two complete sets of application materials must be submitted. Only applications that adhere to these guidelines will be reviewed.

Toshiba America Foundation
Grants Program for 7-12 grades must be approved by Development Team

About the Program

The Toshiba America Foundation is a nonprofit, private grant making organization that has been supporting improvements in science and math education through grants programs since 1991.

Teacher/School

Eligibility

Any K-6 teacher in a public or private (nonprofit) school is eligible. Grants will be awarded to the teacher's school and will be restricted for use by the teacher in his/her classroom. Only one application per teacher is allowed.

Project Eligibility Projects must advance the teacher's science and math teaching units in grades K-6. Projects must occur during the school day. Before-school, after-school or take home projects are not eligible. Projects must be completed by May 1st so that a project final report can be submitted by May 15th. Projects should take place over at least three class sessions. Project should not be based solely on the purchase of a pre-packaged kit.
Project Eligibility Funds may be requested for the purchase of project materials for student use only. Computer hardware, audio-visual equipment, and field trip expenses may not be included in the budget.

Awards

Up to 75 grants of up to $1,000 each will be made for the purpose of encouraging hands-on teaching of science and mathematics.

The Coca-Cola Foundation

About the Program

Funding will go to support classroom teaching and learning programs, innovative K-12 public school programs, teacher-development programs and smaller projects dealing with specific activities in the elementary and secondary classroom. New solutions to problems that impede the educational system and support effective existing programs are encouraged. Funding is also provided for minority advancement and "pipeline" projects that encourage students to stay in school.

Deadline

The Coca-Cola Foundation Board of Directors review funding recommendations in quarterly meetings. Proposals must be received in their office by June 01, September 01, and December 01 2003.

The National Education Association Foundation Innovation Grants

Purpose of the program:

Grants will support collaborative efforts by two or more colleagues to develop and implement creative and unique ideas that result in high student achievement. The proposed work should engage students in Critical thinking and problem solving that deepen their knowledge of standards-based subject matter.
The work should also improve students' habits of inquiry, self-directed learning and critical reflection. Innovative ideas that focus on closing the achievement gap for underserved students are particularly encouraged. Grant funds may be used for resource materials, supplies, equipment transportation, software or professional development necessary to implement the innovative idea. Preference will be given to applicants who serve economically disadvantaged students.

Amount and Number of Grants:

The Grant amount is $2,000. The National Education Association Foundation will award up to 250 grants per year.

Restrictions:

Grants funds may not be used to pursue degrees on a full-time basis, to pay indirect costs or grant administration fees, or to pay salary supplements. Grant funds may not be used to serve K-12 students in after-school or weekend settings.

Deadline and Notification:

Applications may be submitted at any time. Notification will be made within seven months of receipt of the application.

Duration:

Innovation Grants will fund activities for twelve months from the date of the award.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be practicing US public school teachers in grades K-12.
