Council Programs & Services

Scholarships

  • Awarded annually to graduating seniors from each of our high schools and the Guthrie Center and SBISD educators for continuing education programs.
  • Funded by donations from local PTAs, Founders Day dinner proceeds, SBEF grant, contributions from local businesses and citizens and proceeds from the Houston Chronicle subscription Share Program

ReflectionsReflections Contest

  • Council encourages local unit participation.

General Meetings

  • Held in October, November, April and May
  • Programs and/or special guest speakers at each meeting
  • Delegates, presidents and principals should attend as they are voting members

Founders Day

  • Dinner event held in February to mark National PTA Founders Day, February 3, 2009
  • Honors Texas and National PTA Lifetime members
  • Honors teachers nominated for School Bell Award and presents award

Leadership Training

  • Fall session of Leadership Orientation Training
  • Fall Officers and Chairmen Workshop
  • Local units may request training for specific needs at any time

Awards

  • Council awards presented in May at Awards Night

Communications

  • Newsletter published monthly and distributed by email
  • Website provides calendar, contacts and other pertinent information

Council Support

  • Mentoring committee available to assist local units by providing training and other assistance to support local PTAs. Contact Council President for assistance.
  • Council office in administration building with various resource materials

Legislative

  • Council keeps our PTA members informed of legislative issues affecting our schools and students by working with the District’s Governmental Affairs/Policy liaison and staying aware of  PTA Legislative Priorities
  • Candidates Forum held to give SBISD patrons the opportunity to meet the candidates running for the School Board
Odyssey of the Mind
  • Council serves as a liaison between local PTAs and other Odyssey of the Mind teams.
  • Council provides support and education for schools and PTAs interested in starting programs and coordinates with existing teams to participate in competitions.

Spring Branch Education Foundation

  • Council  provides liaison to SBEF to support their activities and communicate funding opportunities to local units and campuses
  • SBEF provides financial support for Council scholarships

Volunteers

  • Council welcomes PTA members who would like to volunteer at the Council Level Contact the Council President or other officers if interested.
  • Provides an opportunity to get involved in activities occurring throughout the District.

  • Council and the Texas PTA are 501(c)(3)organizations. Donations are tax-deductible.
