A Rousing Success

The 2008 Crystal Awards Gala raised $105,000, the highest in the event’s 15-year history, according to Patty and Bruce Busmire, Gala co-chairs.
            “We are thrilled that this success will mean so much to the 32,000 students in Spring Branch Independent School District,” says Patty Busmire. “It was gratifying to have such an overwhelming response from the community. The event was oversold as so many sought to share in the celebration of the incredible women and men who inspire our children.”
            The evening recognized six Crystal Award winners chosen from more than 1,600 nominations throughout eight Gulf Coast Counties. Winners include: Patty Nilsson, Spring Branch ISD; Anne-Marie Zehawi, The Regis School of the Sacred Heart; Dr. Ollie Davis, Houston ISD; Donna Stone and Kathalene Jernigan, Clear Creek ISD; and Jane Lamb, Klein ISD.             As Platinum Crystal Underwriter, Wal-Mart paid tribute to 52 Teachers of the Year. Spring Branch ISD honored 39 Teachers of the Year.
            In addition to Gala chairs, an incredible team of volunteers led the event. Laura and Paul Riddle stepped in to chair the auction; Wendy and Ben Moreland served as underwriting chairs; and Becky and Mike Robertson joined the committee as decorating chairs.
            Sponsored by the Spring Branch Education Foundation and the Houston Chronicle, the evening’s proceeds benefit educational and enrichment programs in the Spring Branch ISD and the Chronicle’s Readers are Leaders program.
