Semester Update: Don't Miss Class
Parents and students are reminded that as a result of Hurricane Ike and its related school closures earlier this year, attending each and every planned school day during the first semester is especially important. Winter Break begins with early dismissal on Friday, Dec. 19. Students will return to the classroom on Tuesday, Jan. 6, for the second semester.
As the end of the first semester fast approaches, SBISD also reminds parents that several schedule changes have been made due to the hurricane and resulting school closures earlier this year. They are:
- There will be no end of semester exams given for this particular term, except for high school students enrolled in dual credit courses.
- First semester grades will be calculated by reflecting the average from grading periods – either by averaging the three 6-week periods or two 9-week periods, depending on the student grading periods that apply.
For more information, parents should contact their school or grade principal, or SBISD’s Curriculum & Instruction Department at 713-464-1511, ext. 2320, or the Secondary Teaching and Learning Department at 713-464-1511, ext. 2292.
“The Foundation is a superb partner to the school district,” Superintendent Klussmann said. “It provides exceptional opportunities for the community to be involved. Every campaign, every event, every volunteer project bring the community together for an occasion to help our students.”
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides a vehicle for community members to make tax-deductible gifts to SBISD. In addition to sponsoring an annual Employee Campaign which funds scholarships for children of SBISD employees who graduate from SBISD schools, it hosts three signature fundraising events: The Fall Golf Classic, Running for the Arts and Crystal Awards of Outstanding Teachers (in partnership with the Houston Chronicle).
During the past 15 years, the Foundation has raised more than $6 million and received the Houston Business Promise Award from the Greater Houston Partnership.
The 50-member SBEF Board represents parents, volunteers, community and business leaders and district administrators. The Board’s recently published 2007-08 Annual Report, Investing for our future, provides a full accounting of its financial management.
