SBISD sells $100 million in bonds at low rates: Spring Branch ISD sold $100 million in bonds for construction-related school projects at historically low interest rates during the week of Nov. 8-12. Into the Wild marks African photography trip: I-10 traffic, trips to the mall and Southwell's burgers were replaced by dirt road walks in Africa, safaris and goat meat for 13 students this past summer. Two district instructors led young camera bugs to Tanzania on a 21-day, African photo trip that was sponsored by National Geographic. Read more >>


FFA ribbon winners return from Fair: Fourteen Spring Branch FFA members woke bright and early for the Harris County Fair at Houston's Farm and Ranch Club. They all returned from the fair as winners. Read more >>


Orchestra wins Renaissance Festival contests: About 100 Stratford High Orchestra students traveled to Magnolia earlier this month to take part in the Early Music Competition held at the Texas Renaissance Festival. They returned to campus far richer in lore and in praise. Their many medals were awarded by King Henry VIII “himself” at the outdoor festival. Read more >>

Other Top Headlines in SBISD:
National Merit Semifinalists are honored: Earlier this fall, 30 SBISD high school seniors were named among the best and brightest in the nation. Eighteen students from Memorial and Stratford high schools were honored at the October Board of Trustees meeting as National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists. The recognition is one of the top academic prizes that U.S. high school students can earn. Read more >>

Northbrook High wins MIT-related Innovation grant: Northbrook High School physics teacher Bhavna Rawal has won a $9,500 grant from the Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam Initiative to work with a team of students to design and then create an Energy Efficient Cooling Blanket. Northbrook High is one of 14 high schools nationally to be chosen for foundation funding. Read more >>
