Welcome to The Learner's Journey!
We’re shaping how success after high school is defined and achieved. The Learner’s Journey is the district’s five-year strategic plan to increase student achievement and develop a culture of high expectations for all students.
The plan’s goal, known as Spring Branch T-2-4, challenges the system to increase the number of students completing a technical certificate or military training, two-year or four-year degree from 44 percent to 72 percent by 2022.
A journey for #EveryChild and every learner
At the core of The Learner's Journey is the fundamental belief that we are all unique and gifted with different skills, interests and talents. We learn in different ways, at different speeds, and need different levels of support. We all want voice and choice in our learning. We’re responding by changing the way we teach and the way children learn – with higher engagement, more student ownership of learning and expanded opportunities to apply learning in ways that are rigorous, challenging and encouraging.
At the same time, we are building our analytical muscle to make better data-informed decisions. We are rethinking how we develop our staff, leverage the skills of our best educators, and expand the classroom beyond the walls of our schools.
We invite you to join us on the journey!
Creating powerful learning environments to connect, collaborate, and learn
When we talk about creating Learning Ecosystems, we're talking about the how, when, and where of a student's learning experience. Does a child stop learning after leaving a classroom? Is every student ready to learn the same material in the same way at the same time? If not, we need to make sure every student's learning ecosystem is responsive to the needs of that specific child.
Empowering staff to be lead learners
We know that a great student experience starts with great educators and support staff. We're committed to nurturing the strengths and development of all of our employees in new and bold ways while holding fast to our Core Values.
Thanks to a range of new professional development opportunities - like SBISD's Vanguard Cohort and our Opportunity Culture initiative - we're expanding the potential for both staff and students across the school district by investing in our employees.
Strengthening our Collective Impact
We don't do this work alone. Student success requires a strong partnership between the community, parents, educators, district leaders, students, and staff. SBISD is fortunate to have an outstanding network of supporters like our Education Foundation, our Good Neighbor partners, our PTA members, and countless community organizations who work in service of our families.
These partners provide critical personalized services to our most important customer - students. Our work under the strategic plan will strengthen these already powerful resources by aligning our collective impact through initiatives like Family E3.
Optimizing time, talent, and skills
In order to effectively support the work of running an excellent school district, we need to ensure that our foundation is strong. This means creating and sustaining strong operational and organizational systems that are thoughtfully aligned to the needs of our schools and students.
