Dear Spring Branch ISD,
Last week, Governor Abbott called Special Session #3 of the 88th Texas Legislature to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9, and last for up to 30 days. Yesterday, Governor Abbott issued a proclamation identifying the agenda items for the session.
In addition to agenda items related to border security, public safety and ending Covid-19 restrictions, the first agenda item states:
- EDUCATION FREEDOM: Legislation providing education savings accounts for all Texas schoolchildren.
Specific agenda items related to public school funding, educator pay and other items of importance for Spring Branch ISD were not included in the Governor’s proclamation.
The Governor may add items to the agenda at any time. While lawmakers can only pass legislation related to items on the Governor’s call, lawmakers can file bills on other topics. However, such bills would be subject to a point of order.
As we learn more about specific bills that may be filed and advocacy opportunities for our legislators to hear from the SBISD community, we will keep you informed.
Please follow our social media channels, monitor special session information we will add to our 88th legislative webpage, and be on the lookout for emails from me in the days and weeks ahead. Your voices continue to matter now more than ever.
Thank you,
Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
