Dear SBISD families,
The Board of Trustees continues the review of budget considerations to address the district’s $35 million shortfall for the 2024-25 school year.
As this budget review continues, all aspects of the district’s programs and operations are under review. Therefore, we have put the opening of the district’s Choice Programs Lottery Application on hold. We will provide updates as they are available.
As you know, this challenging situation is the result of the failure by our state leaders to properly fund Texas public school districts, despite the largest budget surplus in state history.
While Governor Abbott made an announcement to expand the call for the third special session, there still is not a plan forthcoming from either the House or Senate that would provide the level of new funding that SBISD needs to address our budget shortfall. There also is less than a week remaining in this session, so it is doubtful that legislation can be finalized in this short time. Hopefully, an additional special session will be called if there is no legislation passed this special session. However, we have no indication of when that might be.
We thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to address this most significant challenge.
Thank you,
Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
