thank you meadow wood elementary
 spacer

I want to thank Meadow Wood Elementary for taking time on Thursday, Sept. 8, to meet and to share with me during my Staying Connected visit there. This was the first campus stop on my journey around the district this year.

I look forward to visiting every school in Spring Branch over the course of the 2016-17 school year.

I encourage educators and staff to join me on these visits. I'll be sharing important information about the work of the system, and more importantly, asking for you to share your insights and feedback. Think about...

  • What do you see as an OPPORTUNITY with The Learner's Journey?
  • What do you have QUESTIONS about?
  • What are you MOST PROUD of that's happening on your campus? In your community?

Respond and let me know! We're stronger when we work together. Staying Connected is one of the ways we can foster LIMITLESS CURIOSITY about our shared work in a COLLABORATIVE way. I hope you're having a great first few weeks of school.

I'll be seeing you soon!

Dr. Muri

SBISD Superintendent of Schools

brag about it!

spacer Here’s a few special points of pride to share about the great work going on at Meadow Wood Elementary:
  • All Meadow Wood teachers this year are Gifted and Talented certified. This universal campus certification is just one of the many ways educators are developing understand about student learning and personalizing the approach to instruction in our schools.
  • STAAR Writing scores at this campus improved last year at every level, with Passing and College Ready rates improving by 2 points, and the highest level Advanced rates doubling from 9 percent to 18 percent.
  • Third-grade Math and Science teacher, Ami Rapp's creative approach to classroom seating, is an example of 'thinking differently' featuring flexible seating options and station rotations. Students are grouped based on pre-assessment data. Ami is well known for her creativity, organization, and loyalty, and she is always willing to share with her Meadow Wood colleagues.
  • STAAR Distinctions:

Distinction in Science (Top Quartile) Grade 3, Reading Performance at Level III (2nd Quartile) Grade 4, Writing Performance at Level III (2nd Quartile) Grade 5, Reading Performance at Level III (2nd Quartile), Greater than expected grown in Mathematics overall (2nd Quartile), Grade 4 Mathematics Performance at Level III (2nd Quartile), Grade 5 Mathematics Performance at Level III (2nd Quartile)

Great conversations

Here are just a few of the interesting take-aways shared by some of our educators at the MWE Staying Connected:

  • There is a new energy and excitement about the work! Educators are ready to think differently and try new things.
  • Change is hard, and we have to find a balance between safety and risk as we approach our work.
  • How do we take care of ourselves? We have to be able to recharge if we want to be the best for our kids, schools and each other.
  • This work will take time.

STAY CONNECTED
ALL YEAR LONG
