The Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees conducted special presentations at its regular monthly meeting in April to recognize two Employee and Volunteer of the Month recipients. In addition, Trustees honored about 40 district art students for the many awards they earned at regional, state and national levels this year.

Special Presentations

Named as SBISD’s April Employee of the Month is Greg Sorensen, a systems engineer in the district’s Technology Department. A Northbrook High School graduate, Greg provides a highly rated level of customer service with both expertise and compassion for every assistance request. Technology Director Wes Hargrove describes Greg as a great problem solver and communicator. Chief Information Officer Venu Rao says that he is a role model in the technology department for SBISD’s new Service First plan for employees who work in non-classroom positions.

April’s Volunteer of the Month is Janice Goss, who began volunteering years ago when her two daughters attended Wilchester Elementary School. Today, she spends countless hours at Stratford High behind the scenes creating award-winning costumes for Stratford Playhouse productions. In addition, she assists with the high school band and Spartan Band Booster Club. Since 2006, she has touched the lives of more than 1,000 band and theater students with her time and talent, and she has taught more than 100 young people how to sew and design. At Stratford High, Janice is such a “fixture” that many people think that she is staff!

SBISD has a long, proud history of achievement in fine arts. In recognition of Youth Art Month and the accomplishments of young artists, Trustees recognized dozens of district students for best rated works ranging from Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo top ribbons to a Scholastic National Gold Key award, one of the highest accolades that a student artist can earn. The presentation was prepared and moderated by Visual Arts Coordinator Sally Doyle, who introduced art students and their teachers.
