New Year Heralds 50-year Celebrations in SBISD

Fiftieth anniversaries will be celebrated at three SBISD campuses in the months ahead.

Now marking 50 years are Spring Woods High School, Memorial Middle School and Westwood Elementary.

Students, staff and alumni at Spring Woods High School began preparing early for a great 50th year with a student poster contest and calendar planning that includes at least one theme event every nine weeks.

At Memorial Middle, meanwhile, organizers are still finalizing plans for the school anniversary. At this time, a special event or activity may highlight past principals and staff members. A time capsule from a previous class buried on the school grounds might be located and dug up, too.

The Art of Recognizing Your Strengths

Heading back to class can be a stressful time when faced with making new friends, attending a new school or simply planning for the changes that come with the start of a new year.

A recent lesson in viewpoint in Meadow Wood Elementary Art Specialist Debbie Guelzow's art class helped students focus on their personal strengths, while empowering them to be innovative problem solvers.

College Colors Day 2013

Campus faculty and staff at Westchester Academy of International Studies donned their college colors, becoming 'walking billboards' for the college experience during the first week back in class.

By participating in this special day, staff were able to build student awareness about college and career planning. College Colors Day exposes students to the various options they have after high school graduation, providing a great opportunity for conversation about life after high school graduation.

Students Head Back to Class Prepared Thanks to SBISD Community

For many families in Spring Branch, the back to school season marks a special milestone in the year. Along with the excitement and thrill of starting class with new friends, teachers and endless opportunities, some families face the very real struggle of paying for school supplies. The Spring Branch Education Foundation's (SBEF) School Supply Project and SBISD Good Neighbor partners like CITGO, CINCO Energy Services, Nexen, and Metro National put their respective corporate and personal philosophies into action delivery much needed supplies to district children and families.

Honoring Those We Lost: Remembering 9/11

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, all classrooms in SBISD will observe a moment of silence to honor the victims of 9/11. The moment of silence is now mandated by passage of Texas House Bill 1501. Students may have questions about historical events or details related to the national tragedy.  We encourage parents to share their feelings and remembrances with their children.
