Special Presentations

Employee & Volunteer of the Month

Elsa Limas, a teacher assistant at the Lion Lane School for Early Learning, was recognized as the December Employee of the Month. Elsa was nominated by both her colleagues and school leaders for performing much more than her paraprofessional duties call for on a daily basis. “She serves as a leader for all paraprofessionals. She comes in early to answer phones, helps our school nurse with registrations, and even has taken charge of organizing bus duties for assistants. Elsa does whatever needs to be done, and she does it with a smile,” Lion Lane Director Sharee Cantrell said. View our  video here >>

December’s Volunteer of the Month is John Bobbitt, who volunteers with Literacy Advance of Houston. John meets twice weekly with Pine Shadows Elementary parents to help all of them learn, understand and speak the English language. His meetings have grown to up to 60 parents, and outgrew one meeting location. He also recently began a new “Dad’s Only” meeting to work on ESL skills with school fathers. Pine Shadows Partner and Volunteer Liaison Luisa Rodriguez describes John Bobbitt as “passionate, flexible and never absent.” View our video here >>

Special Recognition

In a separate Board recognition, Spring Woods High School Theatre Director Terry Hibbert-Ismert was honored for her induction earlier this fall into the Texas Thespians Hall of Fame by the state Educational Theatre Association. She is the first theatre professional in SBISD to earn a Hall of Fame ranking by this group, which honors longtime theatre educators and others for their dedication to student theatre in Texas and contributions to the field. Terry has taught theatre since 1986 at Spring Woods High. Her students over the years have won numerous area, regional and national awards. Many of her former students have gone on to work professionally in New York City, Los Angeles and other major film, television and theatre centers around the world. Several graduates of her program now teach in SBISD, including Anne Yancey at Spring Woods High and Kelly Harkins at Spring Forest Middle. Read more here >>
