Bus Assistant

Work Year: 178 days

Base Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Pay Plan, Pay Grade 301 (Compensation Plan)

Primary Purpose: Ride on the bus to assist the driver in providing a safe and orderly trip for the passengers.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be 21 years and older. Ability to work with fellow employees. Mature judgment. Proficient oral and written communication skills. Physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to assist in evacuating the bus in an emergency. Day care, nursing home or related experiences dealing with special needs individuals preferred.

Bus Driver

Work Year: 178 days

Base Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Pay Plan, Pay Grade 305 (Compensation Plan)

Primary Purpose: Ensure safe, efficient and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated location.

Qualifications: Obtain and maintain a valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B) with an endorsement, and all other required licenses, permits, and certificates. Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety and by SBISD as well as any other local, state and federal requirements. Complete and pass the Texas School Bus Driver’s Course, allied courses and examinations. Eligible for coverage under the district’s vehicle insurance program. Certification of good health as required by the State of Texas and signed by a licensed physician. Ability to pass department physical dexterity test. Must have an interest in the education and welfare of children. Must be 21 years and older.

Crossing Guard

Work Year: 178 days (2 hours per day)

Base Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Pay Plan, Pay Grade 301
 (Note: This position is normally one (1) hour in the morning and one (1) hour in the afternoon at the discretion of the building Principal.) (Compensation Plan)

Primary Purpose: Responsible for the student safety, at assigned street crossings, during specific periods of the day.

Qualifications: Ability to assist children from PK through high school. Ability to use good judgment. Ability to cope with severe weather and temperature extremes. Ability to stand and or walk for a period of two hours minimum.
Must have reliable transportation at all times. Note: This position is normally one (1) hour in the morning and one (1) hour in the afternoon at the discretion of the building Principal.

Custodian

Work Year: 250 days

Base Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Pay Plan, Pay Grade 301 (Compensation Plan)

Primary Purpose: Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Perform custodial work such as sweeping, mopping, polishing floors, remove trash, cleaning of furniture and perform minor maintenance repairs.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Custodial experience preferred but not required. Ability to speak and read Basic English. Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures. Ability to work effectively with school administrators, students, staff, contractors, vendors and community. Clean and neat appearance. Ability to complete custodial work, such as, mopping, buffing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), moving furniture, etc. Ability to work on eight (8) foot ladder. Ability to operate custodial and related equipment.

Production Assistant (Cafeteria)

Work Year: 181 days

Base Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Pay Plan, Pay Grade 301 (Compensation Plan)

Primary Purpose: Perform all duties involving food preparation, service, food storage, and clean-up operations related to these duties.

Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Ability to read and speak the English language. Ability to pass the Health Department sanitation training. Ability to handle money efficiently and perform routine mathematical calculations. Ability to support the Food Service Department with regular attendance. Physical ability to do child nutrition work such as mopping, sweeping, putting up groceries, lifting (up to 30 lbs.), standing for extended periods of time, bending, stooping, etc. Demonstrate good personal appearance and cleanliness in work habits. Knowledge of school lunch pattern and/or nutritional value of foods served.

Basic Requirements for Teaching in Texas

  • You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Every teacher must have an academic major, as well as teacher training courses. The only exemption from the degree requirement is for individuals seeking Career and Technology certification to teach certain courses, such as welding or computer-aided drafting.
     
  • You must complete teacher training through an approved program. These programs are offered through colleges and universities, school districts, regional service centers, community colleges, and other entities.
     
  • You must successfully complete the appropriate teacher certification tests for the subject and grade level you wish to teach.

Substitute Teacher

Requirements:
  • Certified Teacher or Minimum of 60 College Semester Hours

Application Process:

  • Before starting the online application, gather the following information:

    • Reference information (2 references from current Superintendents, Principals, Assistant Principals and/or others who have supervised your work)
  • Complete all required information in each section of the application.
Substitute Online Training (Substitute Teachers Only):
  • Current Student Teachers and Experienced certified teachers who have been in the classroom within the last 5 years do not need to take the Region 4 online substitute training.
  • If you do not meet the above criteria, you must complete the Substitute Online Training provided by Region 4 prior to receiving an invitation to the Orientation.  
    • Cost will be a non-refundable $25.00.   
    • Register and complete the Online Substitute Training at http://www.esc4.netEnter “Substitute Training” in the search field on the left then click the link to the session.
    • Contact Region 4 if you have any questions and/or issues.
    • Print the assessment score page at the end of the training and upload the page to your application.
Substitute Orientation Process:
  • Attend Substitute Orientation. Human Resources will contact you via email as soon as the substitute orientation dates become available.
  • Complete Substitute Teacher Employment Packet. You will receive an email to complete the forms online. The forms MUST be completed prior to receiving an invitation to the orientation.
  • Complete Criminal History Check. Fingerprints are required. Information will be provided at the Substitute Orientation.

Requirements:

Substitute Orientation Process:
  • Attend Substitute Orientation. The District Nurse Coordinator will contact you to schedule the orientation.
  • Complete Substitute Employment Packet. After completing the orientation, the Human Resources Department will contact you regarding completing your employment paperwork online. 
  • Complete Criminal History Check. Fingerprints are required. Information will be provided by the Substitute Office.
