Spring Branch ISD students, staff and community members gathered on Wednesday, Jan. 25 to celebrate the groundbreaking and planned construction of the new Woodview Elementary. The 104,094 square-foot building will replace the 70,508 square-foot building, which opened its doors in 1958.
Dr. Jennifer Blaine, SBISD Superintendent of Schools, welcomed attendees and introduced the Spring Branch NJROTC Color Guard who led the flag ceremony and Woodview Student Council member Marijose Lopez, who led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Woodview Choir sang the Star Spangled Banner and attendees cheered before SBISD Board of Trustees vice president Lisa Andrews Alpe addressed the audience and expressed her enthusiasm for a new Woodview.
“This is a very exciting day!” said Alpe. “As I walked in, I saw the chalk messages from students to their school. There are many memories here and it is clear that this is an important place for them, but I am very excited for what is to come!”
On behalf of State Representative Lacey Hull from District 138, District Director Krysta Allen presented a certificate to Woodview congratulating SBISD on the groundbreaking ceremony and noted how excited she is to see the new campus.
Deneen Stanfield, Woodview staff member, and Brittany Hoffman, Woodview alumna, reminisced on their time at the school.
“I’m sad to see it being torn down, but I’m very happy for students to have a new campus!” said Hoffman. “It’s bittersweet, but very exciting.”
The rebuilt Woodview will serve 700 students and bring new collaborative spaces that promote student learning. The campus has moved off-site to SBISD’s East Transition Campus while the new school is built.
“The 2017 Bond allows us to be here to celebrate the new Woodview for our families, students and staff,” said Irma Garner, Woodview principal. “We look forward to what the future brings to the new home of the Woodview Beagles!”
The Woodview Elementary rebuild is part of the 2017 Bond Program and continues the transformation of district facilities that began with the 2007 Bond Program.
