2017 Bond Program projects honored with prestigious Stars of Distinction

Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is proud to announce that Memorial Drive Elementary (MDE) and Woodview Elementary (WVE) have been recognized with Stars of Distinction by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Exhibit of School Architecture, in partnership with the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) Southern Region.

These honors highlight the district’s commitment to excellence through the voter-approved 2017 Bond Program, which continues to deliver innovative and inspiring learning spaces across SBISD.

Recognition of excellence in school design

The Exhibit of School Architecture showcases outstanding new and renovated school facilities that set benchmarks for innovation, sustainability, and educational impact. This year, 41 projects were submitted by 21 architectural firms, representing 30 school districts, two college systems, and one state school. Each project was completed within the past five years and had not previously been exhibited.

A jury of 12 members — including four school board members, four school administrators, and four representatives from A4LE’s Southern Region — selected 24 projects for Stars of Distinction for Excellence in categories such as design, value, wellness, community, planning, and transformation.

Partnership and collaboration at work

The recognition of MDE and WVE underscores not only the strength of SBISD’s 2017 Bond Program but also the value of collaboration. Stantec partnered with SBISD to bring these projects to life, combining innovative design expertise with the district’s vision for modern, student-centered learning spaces.

Equally critical to the process was the guidance of the District’s Project Advisory Team (PAT). PAT members — made up of campus leaders, staff, parents, and community representatives — provided meaningful input throughout planning and development. Their feedback ensured that each design reflected the unique needs of the school communities, balancing innovation with practicality to create environments where students can thrive.

Bond program impact

These award-winning projects reflect the power of community investment in public education. Both MDE and WVE embody thoughtful planning and design that support collaboration, flexibility, and student-centered learning — creating environments that will inspire excellence for years to come.
