2019 Tommy Tune Awards Nominations

Stratford High Playhouse’s recent production of Newsies has won seven separate nominations, while Memorial High School has been nominated twice, for Theatre Under the Stars’ upcoming 17th annual Tommy Tune Awards.

The Tommy Tune Awards recognize and reward excellence in musical theatre by high school students and teachers in the Houston region. This year’s annual awards ceremony and celebration will be held April 30 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts downtown. Event tickets are required.

Fifty-one participating Houston-area high school productions were evaluated in the 2018-2019 school year by area theatre professionals. Students and schools were nominated in 15 award categories.

Stratford High Playhouse was nominated in seven categories for its Newsies production:

  • Best Musical
  • Ensemble
  • Lighting Design
  • Scenic Design
  • Costume Design
  • Stage Crew & Technical Direction
  • Direction

Theatre directors and instructors at Stratford High include CeCe Prudhomme, David Clayton, Christian Holmes and Marcie Baker. 

Memorial High School was nominated in two categories:

  • Best Supporting Actor – Andrew Burke as Freddy Eynsford-Hill in My Fair Lady
  • Orchestra

Theatre directors and instructors at Memorial High are Tiffany Conner and Daniel Morin. Memorial’s orchestra conductors and instructors are Danielle Prontka and Matthew Chan.
