Dear SBISD Families and Community,
As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to start by sharing some exciting news and reflecting on the incredible progress we’ve made as a district. The data we’ve seen recently shows just how much our students are thriving. We are consistently leading the way in key areas like kindergarten readiness, 3rd-grade reading, 8th-grade math, and SAT/ACT scores. In fact, when you look at the Good Reason Houston dashboard, you’ll see that SBISD is at the top, outpacing many other local districts and charter programs.
This progress reflects the hard work of our students, families, and staff, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished together. We’ve also recently shared that SBISD ranks in the 92nd percentile when compared to nearly 100 other Texas districts with similar demographics. This is an outstanding achievement, and it’s a true testament to our Collective Greatness.
Of course, our success goes beyond the numbers. I’m especially excited to share the success of our Early College program. At Northbrook High School (NHS), 44 students in the RISE College Academy are on track to graduate with both their SBISD diploma and an associate's degree from HCC in just 18 months. We’ll be expanding this program next year with the launch of the Tiger College Academy at Spring Woods High School (SWH), providing even more students the chance to earn an associate's degree while in high school.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to ensuring our students continue to succeed, and we are advocating for the funding our schools need. Our School Finance Advocacy Team is hard at work, and we will continue pushing for increased support as the legislative session begins.
Finally, I want to take a moment to thank you: from the bus drivers who get our students safely to school each day, to the cafeteria workers who fuel our students with healthy meals, to the custodians who keep our schools clean and welcoming, and of course, to our teachers, counselors, principals, and support staff who dedicate themselves to nurturing our students’ academic and personal growth. Your contributions make all the difference, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything you do.
Thank you to our families, volunteers, and partners for being a part of the SBISD family. I hope you and your loved ones have a restful and joyful Thanksgiving.
With gratitude,
Dr. Jennifer Blaine
Superintendent, SBISD
