The School Zone: News

A bilingual student, Brianna Mosely recently spelled 28 of 30 words correctly to win the Spring Branch ISD Spelling Bee.

The fourth grader from Nottingham Elementary competed in the online contest against 34 third through eighth grade spellers from 17 schools in the district.

“When we have young students win the district bee it is amazing to me,” said Amy Ellingson, Facilitator for Advanced Academic Studies and organizer of the district’s spelling contest. “I know she worked really hard to study.”

Some of the words Brianna and the other contestants were asked to spell are:

hooligan
adulation
beguile
expostulate
pugnacious

And the final, winning word: lolloped

For winning the SBISD Spelling Bee, Brianna will receive a Kindle Fire HD. She will also go on to compete with other winners in the region in the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee on March 9, which will also be an online event. Good luck, Brianna!

We are #SBISDProud of you.
