Amazing Librarians, FLIP & National Library Week

Literacy is a key priority in Spring Branch ISD and we deeply believe in the role families play as their child’s first, and most important, partner.

As part of the ReadSBISD initiative, the district recently partnered with the Children’s Museum of Houston to bring the Family Literacy Involvement Program – or FLIP – into nine Spring Branch elementary school libraries. The program features bilingual (English and Spanish) FLIP Kits for grades K-2. Each kit contains a book for families to read together, along with all the materials needed to engage students in a corresponding literacy-building activity. Families can check out a FLIP Kit to enjoy together at home.

In March, Treasure Forest Elementary launched the first FLIP pilot for its Kindergarten students. This spring, the school will scale up to 1st and 2nd grades and, next school year, the program will launch at the remaining eight campuses.

Listen to Dr. Jennifer Blaine, Superintendent of Schools, as she takes a look inside this exciting partnership and celebrates our amazing librarians and school libraries!
