Application deadline approaching for SBEF scholarships for Seniors

Thanks to the generosity of community members, partners and district employees, the Spring Branch Education Foundation is able to award multiple scholarships from their general scholarship fund to dozens of SBISD seniors each year.

The foundation raises money all year through various charity events, as well as happily accepting tax deductible contributions.

According to the foundation’s website: "While many scholarships are academic- or needs-based, ours are based on each student’s holistic achievements: personal qualities, school and community involvement, family life and academics."

Last year, SBEF awarded 111 scholarships to class of 2019 seniors. The total amount of scholarship money awarded in spring 2019 was $158,150.

An Employee Campaign raises funds for senior SBISD students who have a parent working for the district. Last year, 44 children of district employees each received an Employee Campaign $1,250 scholarship. Altogether, 55 children of district employees were awarded a scholarship in spring 2019.

SBEF scholarship winners from the class of 2020 will be announced in mid-April, and honored on May 6, 2020 at the foundation’s Bright Stars event at the Westin Memorial City.

“Every year, the Spring Branch Education Foundation looks forward to honoring our district’s brightest stars with scholarships to continue their education and help them succeed after they leave SBISD,” SBEF Executive Director CeCe Thompason said.

The deadline for delivery of 2020 scholarship applications to the SBEF office (955 Campbell Road) is 4 p.m., Feb. 18, 2020. The application is here.

Community members who wish to support scholarship programs are invited to make a tax-deductible donation to the Foundation and earmark it for scholarships. Call 713-251-2381 or visit sbef@springbranchisd.com for more information.
