Partners Bridge Digital Gap for SBISD Families

Harris County Precinct 4, ATT and Compudopt Provide 50 Refurbished Laptops to Bridge Digital Gap for Area SBISD Families

In a united effort to combat the digital divide, Harris County Precinct 4, AT&T and Compudopt have teamed up to distribute 50 refurbished laptops to students and families in need within the Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD). This initiative, generously sponsored by Harris County Precinct 4 and AT&T, seeks to provide essential digital resources to those lacking access to the internet or computers necessary for remote learning.

Recognizing that corporate computers often have a lifespan of fewer than three years, Compudopt repurposes these lightly used tools, preventing them from ending up in landfills or storage shelves. Instead, they become invaluable resources for young learners eager to expand their skills and knowledge.

The distribution event, held at Landrum Middle School, was a testament to the collective efforts of community leaders and volunteers, spearheaded by Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones and Tanya Makany Rivera, Director of External and Legislative Affairs at AT&T.

Access to learning resources at home is pivotal for fostering student learning and ensuring educational continuity. This initiative is a cornerstone of AT&T's expansive Connected Learning® program, which is dedicated to bolstering internet accessibility, affordability, and secure adoption for all.

"Our commitment to bridging the digital divide remains unwavering," stated Tanya Makany Rivera of AT&T. "Through initiatives like this, we aim to empower students and families with the necessary tools to thrive in an increasingly digital world."

The laptops provided through this program will enable families to actively support participation in their student's education, ensuring access to essential resources both within and beyond the classroom. This endeavor not only supports individual learners but also aligns with the district's vision of T-2-4 for Every Child. By partnering with organizations like Compudopt and collaborating with local schools and communities, AT&T is taking significant strides toward closing the digital gap.
